Chapter

Her afternoon with Spike convinced May of something. Though she had rebelled
against making him a fixture in her life, the man was important to her. Lacey, she
knew, was an infatuation, an intense infatuation, but still nothing more. She had been
something May had to have. It was good, and the older woman hoped it would last for
a while yet.
Someday though, Lacey would go on her way, off to live her own life. She was still
practically a child - eighteen years old. Everything was waiting for her in the future.
May and Spike had already been through quite a few rounds with life. They had
developed their eccentricities and their preferences. They enjoyed what they did for a
living, they enjoyed their evenings in the saloon, they enjoyed the unplanned torrid
screws. When Lacey was gone, there would still be Spike and May. They were as much
a part of the local scenery as the tall scraggly pines along the coast.
Seen in this light, May began to relent in her views of Spike's attraction to Lacey. She
could certainly understand the lure of the sweet-faced beauty. She had fallen for it too.
She had been falling for it every night, when she and Lacey fell into each other's arms.
At length, she began to be attracted by the possibility of having a threesome with Spike.
He had suggested the idea, and May had promised to think it over.
There was no doubt in her mind that Lacey was ready, whether the girl realized it or
not. She had broken through most of the barriers left over from her life back east. All
that remained was for Lacey to experience another man. After all this time, all this
sensuality, the only man in her life was still Dave - and he was only a faded bitter
memory.
The brunette planned a little dinner party - for just her and Lacey and Spike. Lacey
